Thimble Blossom's Sampler {Finally!} Finished

While being forced to watch season 5 of Game of Thrones, I got a lot of hand quilting done. Here is my last post about the Thimble Blossoms Sampler, back in August (of last year). This quilt is no longer sitting lonely and abandoned. It was fun trying out all my favorite Thimble Blossom blocks.

Just realized the quilt is upside down.  How can I tell?  The houses are upside down, oops!

Poor Dwell block, this just didn't do you justice!

After finishing the quilt top, I was unsure how I was going to quilt this one. One day I just came to the conclusion about hand quilting. Then started. The last two months have been spent on the couch quilting away and I am very excited about the outcome. This monumental task was well worth the effort.

If you are also interested in quilting using big stitches, here is the tutorial. Instead of using floss, I used pearl DMC thread size 8. The whole quilt was done using white thread. Yay, third project finished this summer :)

  6. It is gorgeous. And it doesn't not feel like almost a year since your last post about it! My how time flies!!! The hand quilting finishes it so nicely. I think it was well worth the effort as well :)

  7. I love the vintage vibe this quilt has even with the modern fabrics. I looked at your tutorial for hand quilting, it looks like you didn't use a hoop or a frame. Did that make the quilting easier?

  8. Wow. That is absolutely gorgeous. The hand quilting is a perfect complement to the mostly soft colors you chose. Do you have a favorite Thimble Blossom block? I have SO many of her patterns in the queue!

  11. What a fun idea, and the hand quilting always sets her patterns off so well and this sampler is no different. :)

  12. It is really lovely Chelsea, such a contrast to the blood and gore of GoT :)

  13. It turned out beautifully Chelsea! I really need to make some thimble blossom blocks or quilts. The hand quilting really did it justice. It looks like you went with a scrappy binding but I love the green polka dot that I see in that last picture. I'm such a pushover for polka dots!

  14. So pretty, Chelsea! And while I never would have understood how time consuming hand quilting could be, I now am finishing up my first hand quilted piece, and I know what a labor of love it is! Gorgeous job!

  16. Maybe the houses are in the Southern Hemisphere. That would explain their upside-downiness. :)
It has a fresh but vintage look that is really appealing.

  17. "Forced" to watch Game of Thrones? By whom? I love it. I'm anxiously awaiting another book in the series. My love of reading conflicts with my love of quilting! :-)
Really wonderful....Thimbleblossoms patterns are just beautiful. I'm working on quilting my first Swoon and I want to make Fireworks next.
